I just think that thinking is ultimately more effective than gossiping because surely it is fair to suggest that perhaps more thinking leads to more helpful and practical gossip.

Personally, gossip magazines are mostly a waste of my time. I can be doing something else that I think is more one, productive, and two, beneficiary and rewarding in the long term, particularly for people in general, and not myself, such as reading a history or science book, or thinking about and reflecting on politics, economics, business, technology (including energy efficient and ecofriendly technology), etc.
