How does one prepare to become a magazine editor?

TheArtist asked:

Well, I’m still in high school. And I’m still not clear about my career options. But all I know is that I can write and it’s something I love doing. Becoming a magazine editor is a dream but I want to know what I have to do in order to get there. And also, what personality traits are required for a job like this? Thanks for the help!

    Education/major:
Usually if you want to become an editor, the job requires a college degree in communications, journalism, or English.

    Skills Needed:
Editors must be able to express ideas clearly and logically and should love to write. Creativity, curiosity, a broad range of knowledge, self-motivation, and perseverance also are valuable. Editors must demonstrate good judgment and a strong sense of ethics in deciding what material to publish. Editors also need tact and the ability to guide and encourage others in their work.

    Good luck!
