Where can drop off my old magazines as donations?

I’ve been looking for a place that accepts magazine donations in the Chicago area. My local library only accepts donated books. I don’t want to throw them out or recycle them. Since there is a lot of valuable information in them - life lessons, personal finance, fashion, culture, etc. - I think that it would be best placed with a women’s shelter or youth center. The bulk of the magazines are Essence, Oprah, and InStyle. Thanks for all suggestions!

You can drop them off at the Salvation Army or GoodWell and you receive a write off on your taxes for your chartable donation.

My sister-in-law just dropped off some at a retirement home and they were elated!!

Drop them off anywhere: schools, prisons (they’ll love you for it but get permission first), women’s shelters, veterans’ homes, hospital waiting rooms, doctors’ offices; I even drop mine off at the laundromat because I love to read while waiting. While you’re at it, send a subscription as a gift to the charity of your choice!

I can only tell you where I drop mine off at. I take all the fashion and cooking mags to the local nursing home then I take the racing and motorcycle and hunting mags to the veterans home. Any and sometimes all of them go to the Home for handycapped because they have some people there that like to turn pages or tear paper out of books so they give them those. I don’t know if any of this will help you but that is what happens to mine……bye

You’re on the right track. Many nursing homes and hospitals may welcome these,I’m surprised
you’re library doesn’t take them, ours does and
sells them for 25cents a small profit for them or
sometimes they’re put into a free box at the
library. Take them to work and put them in the
lunch room.

My mom takes all the old magazines from the doctor’s office where she works to a local thrift shop run by the Catholic church in our town. They take all of them. I am in California but inquire at all the thrift shops where you live and maybe you will find one that will accept them.
