Is there an age requirement for having work published in literary magazines?

I’m speaking of professional sort of magazines, like The New Yorker and similar. So is age an issue? Also, when submitting work, are pseudonyms advisable? I’m quite a fan of using other names and am wondering if I should carry this into the literary world.

Any publishing advice appreciated,
LL

There are no prerequisites. Even The New Yorker has a submission page for regular Joes and Janes. If they like it they will print it.

Go to your library and find a copy of The Writer’s Market. It’s a book that tells you the requirements of various publications, including literary magazines, regarding submissions of work to be considered for publication. I’m sure they don’t care how old you are, but if you are under age, you would have to have a parent or guardian sign any legal agreements or contracts on your behalf. As for the pseudonym, if you’re writing something that might be published in The New Yorker, I’d think you’d be proud to have your own name attached to it.

Age is not an issue. The quality of the work is what it’s all about. And why would you want to use a pseydonym? If there is a very good reason - you are a rock star or something and don’t want your fans to know you are an intellectual - you can ‘fess up to your editors once your material is accepted. But I wouldn’t start out using a pen name unless you plan to stick to that name for your entire writing career.

Age is never an issue, however, maturity may be.
Even though your work may be fantastic, you need to have an exeptionaly mature outlook and style to your writing. But if you do, than, by all means, go for it!
Just remember that you are not going to land your first article in the New Yorker. check out the Writer’s Market 2007 or as recent as your library has. Go to the magizine section. There you will find every single publication in America! Then, start writing quiries. They also have advice on writing letters. Go for your dreams and never stop working! You will do great. Email me if you need more advice or someone to look over your stuff.
