Magazine Publishing Concepts You Must Understand

February 8th, 2010
Joseph Nyamache asked:

When you first start a magazine publishing business expect to face the pressure of competing against those magazines that have been in the industry for years and also other new players with hefty pocketbooks who are able to experiment with different layouts and titles before they settle on one particular look. If you decide that you, too, want to be in this industry, be aware that it’s a pretty tough sell.

Oftentimes, those in business don’t count out magazine publishing as a possible venture to get into, and in fact, it can be a good thing. There’s also an image of magazine publishing as a wonderful, lucrative challenge. It’s certainly not glamorous, but there’s money in it for those who are willing to work hard and can be successful in it. It’s true that some of the so-called “old” players have sold out, but it’s likely that they did so at quite a profit to new magnates. If you want to start up your own magazine, what’s going to be your first step?

First, decide on what your magazine’s concept is going to be. Brainstorm on your own at first. Your interests in the magazine world would suggest that you like to read magazines yourself. Therefore, take a look at what’s already out there and read up on the industry itself. Do you have favorite titles you follow? Take a look at those, and take a look at other popular titles, too. Make sure you check outside of your comfort zone as well as within it so that you know what your audience is going to be reading. This will help you come up with a fresh, new approach that just might make you successful.

When you’ve got some concepts to choose from, take a moment to pause and choose the one you think you’re most interested in and capable of handling. Remember that interest alone is not going to be enough to determine your success. You’re also going to have to have some basic experience in the industry you choose. For example, if you have fashion sense, then maybe your magazine is going to be about fashion or a niche within the industry. Is music your passion? Then maybe you can start a magazine about a particular niche in music. Don’t try to emulate Rolling Stone, but make your own mark. Rolling Stone is as great as it is because it made its own niche in its own day. You have to do the same.

Next, decide what your target market is going to be. It’s likely that you already have some idea of this once you’ve picked out your concept, but make sure you refine it. Then, invest your time, money and energy in expanding your concept so that it can really fuel a magazine. This may take some time and a few missteps, but if you keep at it, stay with your audience and keep people interested in it, you should have success.

Once you’ve got your concept covered and expanded, start your magazine. It’s okay to start small and then grow as your circulation does. It’s better not to get in over your head in the beginning, because doing so may spell failure. Instead, start small and grow with your circulation. This can help ensure your success.

Plan a Trip Using Travel Magazines

February 4th, 2010
Peter Marshall-Farrimond asked:

ip Using Travel Magazines

Travel magazines can help you plan your own trip from beginning to end. You can easily plan your own trip using all the information you find in travel magazines. It helps if you understand how to use travel magazines to plan your trip, though.

Knowing the best tips for getting the information you need and how to plan out your own trip will make the whole process easier on you. Planning your own trip let’s you save money and design a trip that suits your needs perfectly.

Search for a Destination

Before you can even start drawing up the plans for your trip you have to know where you want to go. Travel magazines are the best place to look for information about almost any destination you could ever dream of visiting.

There are different types of travel magazines that you can use. If you know what area you would like to visit then you can choose a travel magazine that focuses on a specific location. For example, if you know you want to go to Florida then use a Florida travel magazine.

You can also find general travel magazines that cover destinations all around the world. This is a good idea if you really have no clue where you want to go on your trip. You can learn about all different types of locations, from tropical beaches to snowy adventures.

Gather Useful Information

Travel magazines will help you to gather useful information once you select your trip destination. Travel magazines offer information from reviews to contact information to pricing. You can get information about restaurants, sights, lodging and travel.

You can usually get all the information you need to plan the budget for your trip and your daily schedule. You can gather information about pricing and get phone numbers so you can verify the prices for when you will be going. You may even find some discounts just for being a magazine reader if you let people know you got their information from a specific travel magazine.

Finalize your Plans

Once you have gathered all of the information you need from travel magazines you can finalize your plans. Make travel arrangements, book lodging and finalize your itinerary. Do not forget to also buy tickets that you may need to get into attractions or events.

With travel magazines you can easily plan your own trip without the need to get a travel agent. It really is rather simple if you put travel magazines to good use. They can provide you with all the information you need to plan a great trip that you will remember forever.

Magazines On Academics And Information

January 20th, 2010
Victor Epand asked:

Magazines on Academics and information are by and large types of academic journals. These magazines have peer reviewed content. The content of the Magazines on Academics and related information is scholarship related and targets the needs of a particular group that may need to step back in time to access curriculum based information. These magazines publish matter relating to a particular discipline in academics and a particular grade or level of accomplishment.

Magazines on Academics and related information serve as forums that enable the introduction and review of presentations related to a particular segment of academics. These presentations are available for scrutiny that could involve the latest research, and the critique of existing research. The content of these magazines typically appear as dedicated articles that present:

Original research pertaining to a particular segment of academics.

Review articles that focus on the scope for deliberation and acceptance of certain content.

Book reviews that make it possible for readers to better understand the choice available in content and authorship.

The Magazines on Academics and related information and professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are usually referred to as professional magazines. These are random collections and the authenticity of the content published is highly questionable.

These magazines are academic journals that cater to all scholarly requirements and in all the various fields of academics, both compulsory and voluntary. There are magazines available in science, math, social sciences and even the various languages and the applicable rules for each. While magazines focusing on science have content relating to a particular syllabus, those focusing on math upgrade to accountancy and book keeping, banking and finance.

These magazines vary in form and function and the identified ‘reader’ base. The specific aspects of each subject are separately discussed and deliberated upon for a better understanding of the content. They are primarily focused on practices and differ in different regions of the world.

The content of the Magazines on Academics and related information is put together, i.e. edited and compiled and primarily written with a segment based approach. These are upgraded and updated and the timeframe of availability for each one differs. While some are offered fortnightly, some are monthly editions and yet others are quarterly and semi annual editions.

Magazines on Academics and related information are a blessing for graduates and under graduates because of the off-campus accessibility of the content for comparison and study. They enable even post graduates and working people the opportunity to stay abreast with the very latest on a subject area and these magazines can be compiled editionwise to form a great ‘make shift’ library. Nowadays, the Magazines on Academics and related information on Environment Education is very popular with school and university students from all over the world.

Dustin Kensrue- I Knew You Before

January 10th, 2010
ThriceX3 asked:

You were once a sweet little girl
so innocent and pure
Your eyes were open and sure
anyone could look right in

I followed closely your gaze
you looked up towards the sky
But I watched your face drift away
other things had caught your eye

The magazines and media supplied you with their plastic protocol
And maybe music television really is the devil after all
But all I can say is I knew you before
You were beautiful back then
before you grew up, before you gave in

You dream of sharing your heart
Instead you share your bed
And your heart beats empty and cold
With all the tears that you have shed

You dream of baring your soul
Instead you bare more skin
And you wear dark glasses to keep
Anyone from looking in

The magazines and media supplied you with their plastic protocol
Oh, and maybe music television really is the devil after all
But all I can say is I knew you before
You were beautiful back then
Before you grew up, before you gave in

And all you want is to hear the words:
“Dear baby I love you”
So you hike your skirt higher still
‘Till there eyes are all on you

You drive in fast foreign cars
The color of your sin
And you tint your windows to keep
Anyone from looking in

Oh, and all I can say is I knew you before
You were beautiful back then
Before you grew up, before you gave in

And all I can say is I knew you before
You were beautiful back then

You could be beautiful again…
